Defensible space & wildfire fuel reduction
If your home sits among piñon, juniper and dry brush in the East Mountains or foothills, thinning the fuel around it is one of the most practical steps you can take before fire season.
What to expect
Defensible space is the buffer around a home where vegetation is cleared or thinned to slow a wildfire and give firefighters room to work. Fire and forestry agencies generally describe it in zones: the area right around the house is kept the leanest, with thinning further out.
We remove dead vegetation and dry brush, thin dense stands, limb trees up off the ground, and clear around structures, propane tanks and driveways — then mulch or haul the material away.

Follow official guidance for your property
Recommended distances and practices vary by property, slope and vegetation. For the details, check guidance from New Mexico fire and forestry agencies, your local fire department, or a Firewise program in your community — we are happy to follow a plan they recommend.
Clearing does not guarantee a home will survive a wildfire, and we do not make that promise. What we can do is reduce the fuel around your home safely and cleanly.

Common questions
When is the best time for fuel reduction?
Ahead of the spring wind and fire season is ideal, but fuel reduction helps any time of year. We will work around any burn or equipment restrictions in effect.
Do you remove all the trees?
No. The goal is thinning and spacing, not clear-cutting. We agree on what stays during the walk-through.
