Gravel driveways and drive repair in Corrales
Corrales driveways tend to be long, used by horse trailers and crossed by irrigation water. We regrade and rebuild them so they drain and carry the weight.
Driveways on horse property near the river
A Corrales drive often runs a long way from the road, past pastures to a house and barn. It carries cars, feed deliveries and loaded horse trailers, and the turn by the barn takes the worst of it.
On softer ground toward the bosque, a drive without enough base sinks into ruts that hold water. West toward Rio Rancho, the sand dries out and washboards. Each side calls for a slightly different fix.
What shapes a Corrales driveway job
We quote after walking the full length of the drive. These details matter most.
- Length and width
- Long drives and trailer-width curves need more base course and more grading time.
- How much base is left
- Some drives only need regrading; others have lost their base and need it rebuilt.
- Water crossings
- Where irrigation water or runoff crosses the drive, a culvert or drainage dip adds work.
- Soft ground
- Next to freshly irrigated fields we may wait for the ground to firm up, or rebuild the subgrade.
- Trees along the drive
- Working carefully around cottonwood roots slows the pace.
Culverts near a ditch need MRGCD's okay
When a driveway crosses or runs beside an acequia or lateral, a culvert or any work in the ditch or its easement typically needs permission from the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. We won't touch the ditch without it. For bigger changes or a new connection to a public road, check with the Village of Corrales or the road authority too.
Driveway calls we get from Corrales
Ruts after irrigation season
Water from nearby fields soaks the roadbed and trucks cut deep ruts. We dig out the soft spots, rebuild with compacted base, and recrown.
The trailer can't make the turn
We widen the curve or build a loop by the barn so a truck and trailer can turn around without backing down the drive.
Washboard on the sandy west side
We cut off the washboard, reshape the crown and add fresh surface gravel.
A new drive to a back parcel
For a house or barn going in behind the main property, we cut in a new drive with base course and gravel.
Corrales driveway questions
Can you widen my driveway without harming the cottonwoods along it?
We look at where the roots likely run and widen on the side away from them when we can. If the only way to widen is through a root zone, we'll talk it over with you first.
Water from the field floods my drive every irrigation turn. What helps?
Often a drainage dip or culvert lets water cross where it already wants to, and raising the drive with base keeps it above the wet ground. If the water comes from a ditch, MRGCD may need to be involved.
