Excavation for additions and walls in Tanoan
Nearly every dig in Tanoan happens in a finished yard: footings for an addition or casita, a cut for a retaining wall on a sloped lot. We plan it around your HOA, the gate and the landscaping that has to survive.
How a dig in Tanoan West or Tanoan East runs
- 1
Written scope for the HOA
We describe the excavation, access route and haul-off in writing so you can include it with your architectural committee application.
- 2
Gate, hours and vehicles
Once approved, we set up gate access with you and the HOA and plan around its working hours and contractor-vehicle rules.
- 3
Protect and locate
We protect the driveway and curb where machines cross and request a New Mexico 811 locate before digging.
- 4
Dig and load out
Spoil goes straight into trucks or to a planned spot on your lot, never onto the street overnight.
- 5
Backfill and tidy
After the footings or wall go in, we backfill in compacted lifts and leave the site clean.
Decomposed granite, with rock where you least want it
This close to the foothills, most yards are decomposed granite. It digs cleanly until the bucket finds a buried boulder, and along a long footing trench that can happen more than once. We plan for breaking or lifting rock rather than treating it as a surprise.
Slope is the other factor. Many lots here fall toward a street, a neighbor or the golf course, and a retaining-wall cut or a new addition changes where water goes. Backfill and final shaping have to move runoff away from your house without sending it next door or onto the course.
What we protect while the dig is open
- Driveways and curbs where equipment crosses
- Irrigation lines, heads and drip in the work path
- Trees and planting beds you're keeping
- Block walls, gates and side-yard pavers
- The street and your neighbors' access
Approval before a start date
Exterior changes typically need sign-off from your HOA's architectural committee. We'll hold a spot once you have approval rather than schedule around a pending application. The neighborhood is inside Albuquerque city limits, so city grading and drainage rules apply as well.
Questions about digging behind the gate
Can you get an excavator into a Tanoan backyard?
Usually. We measure the gate and side yard during the estimate and bring a compact machine sized to fit. If a wall section or gate needs to come out temporarily, we'll talk it through first.
Where does the dirt from a Tanoan dig go?
Most of it is hauled away, since these lots rarely have room for a pile. Some can stay as backfill behind a new wall or around footings if your builder wants it.
Will you follow our HOA's contractor hours?
Yes. Send us the rules for your HOA and we'll plan the dig and truck traffic around them.
Plan your addition or wall dig with us
Let us know whether you're in the West or East neighborhood and how wide your side-yard access is. We'll walk the yard and give you a written scope you can share with the HOA.
