Tree and stump removal in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque
Fence lines and ditch banks in Los Ranchos fill with Russian olive and Siberian elm faster than most owners can cut them back. We clear the invaders and their stumps, and we treat the village's mature trees as something to protect.
Start with a conversation about what stays
The Village of Los Ranchos values open space and mature trees, and so do most owners here. Our walk-through starts with the trees you want to keep, then works back to what has to go.
Before removing large trees, ask the village whether any rules apply to your property. We can help you list which trees are involved so your question is specific.
Where the trees are, and how we handle them
| Location on the property | Typical trees | How we approach it |
|---|---|---|
| Fence lines | Russian olive, Siberian elm | Cut back from the fence, stumps ground so the line can be maintained |
| Ditch banks | Russian olive, salt cedar | Your side cleared up to the easement; work on the ditch needs MRGCD approval |
| Pasture edges and field corners | Elm and olive seedlings spreading in | Stumps pulled or ground before the field is regraded |
| Around the house and barn | Volunteer elms against walls | Removed in sections, stumps ground below grade |
| Orchards | Dead or declining fruit trees | Stumps pulled if you plan to replant in the same spot |
Timing the work around irrigation
Irrigated valley silt and loam is soft right after water comes through. If a field has just been flooded, we hold off on driving an excavator across it until it firms up.
Telling us your irrigation schedule up front lets us pick a day when the ground can carry equipment without leaving ruts in your field.
Grinding is the lighter option on soft ground. When a stump has to be pulled, for a new fence or a regraded paddock, we schedule that part for the driest window.
Trees in power lines stay with the utility
Ditch banks and fence lines often run under overhead lines. If a tree is near those lines, contact your electric utility first. Qualified line-clearance crews handle that work, and we don't cut in that zone.
Tree & stump removal questions in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque
Can you clear olive trees growing inside my ditch?
Not without approval. Ditches and their easements are usually managed by MRGCD, and work in or on them needs the district's permission. Once that's in hand, we can talk through how to do it.
Do you haul away a whole tree row?
Yes. Limbs are chipped, trunks are hauled off and stump holes are backfilled. If you'd rather keep firewood or chips, we leave them where you want them.
Should fence-line stumps be ground or pulled?
Grinding takes the stump below the surface and leaves the roots, which is fine if the fence stays where it is. Pulling removes the root ball, which is better if you're setting new posts in the same line.
